Jazz Workshop
Instructors: Justin Esiason (current JOMP faculty) and Jerry Sabatini, previous JOMP teacher and one of the leading jazz trumpet players/teachers/band leaders in the state.
The program will focus on combo playing rather than a big band with an emphasis on developing improvisational skills. A variety of jazz styles will be explored, including Swing, Bebop, Latin Jazz, and World Jazz (including odd meters). Although some basic theory will be included, the focus will be on learning through playing.
Students will be placed into two separate groups based on experience and level of playing. All levels welcome.
Each group will focus on their own repertoire with their teacher, and then both groups will combine for one piece for a large ensemble experience.
