~ A Note from the Director ~
Welcome! The Joy of Music Program’s original purpose of giving children a joyful and solid foundation for life-long musical growth is still at the heart of the vital and thriving non-profit community music school that now serves people of all ages. Our staff and faculty take pride in the warm and nurturing learning environment we have created at JOMP. Whether you are a beginner or have been playing for many years, you will experience a musical kinship among our students and teachers that is supportive and inspiring.
A testament to our faculty’s outstanding work is the large number of students who start at JOMP as young children and continue to study here through high school. Adults also find that the school is an ideal place to study, whether they are learning to play an instrument for the first time or are already accomplished musicians who have the desire to keep music as a balancing force in their lives.
The study of music is a life-long process of self-discovery, as you learn to trust your musical instincts and find your own “voice.” Our teachers are dedicated to helping you build the skills that will enable you to express yourself through music and accomplish your musical goals, whatever they may be.
The human need to connect with our feelings through music is basic, essential and enduring, be it through singing, movement, playing an instrument or listening. Music helps us understand what goes on inside us and gives us a means of expressing our deepest emotions as nothing else can. As arts organizations and families everywhere adjust to economic challenges, the importance of music becomes clearer and our commitment to it grows stronger. More than ever, JOMP provides a haven for children and adults pursuing music for the love of it and for the richness it adds to the tapestry of their lives.
Music also gives us a powerful way of connecting with one another. Joy of Music has been described as a magnet, whose dynamic energy draws students from the city of Worcester and over 50 surrounding cities and towns, creating a community of students that reflects the rich diversity of the greater Worcester area. We encourage you to join us in pursuing your own musical journey at JOMP.
