Phil Andrews

Percussion

Philip Andrews earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music and his Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, both as a Percussion Performance Major. His principal percussion teachers were James Cully, Benjamin Toth and Pieter Stryuk, with additional instruction from Rogerio Boccata (Brazilian percussion), Alexander Lepak (tympani), Dave Samuels (marimba and vibes), Shane Shanahan (frame drums), Joseph Galeota (African percussion) and John Amira (Latin percussion). As a performer, Philip is active as a drummer for numerous Musical Theatre productions in Massachusetts and Connecticut and a member of several Steel Drum bands. His orchestral work includes appearances with the Commonwealth Opera in Northampton and the Wallingford, Waterbury, New Britain and Nutmeg Symphonies (CT).

Philip taught the Percussion Methods Class at the University of Cincinnati under a Graduate Assistantship and is currently the Drum/Percussion teacher for the Hudson Arts Alliance. He joined the Joy of Music faculty in September 2010.
