Alanna Rantala holds degrees from UC Davis (B.A. Music) and New England Conservatory (M.M. Piano Performance) where she studied with renowned pianist Leonard Shure. She has performed in several US cities, London, and Australia, and recorded for Mode Records ("Winter Music" by John Cage). Alanna is passionate about teaching and enjoys working with students of all ages and levels. She believes in developing a strong classical foundation, and encourages students to think creatively. Lesson assignments are tailored to meet individual needs along with musical interests. Her main goal for students is to find enjoyment in learning to play, while developing a lifetime love for music! In addition to her teaching career and raising two sons, Alanna has worked extensively as accompanist and collaborative pianist, including recent positions as choral accompanist at St Mary’s College of CA and Fitchburg State University. She also enjoys composing, and her solo recordings can be heard on all digital platforms. Alanna is excited to be returning to MA and JOMP where she has previously taught for many years!
